ABOUT US

WHO are we?

We are members of the community, just like yourselves. We come from differing backgrounds, different areas throughout Scarborough and make our money in very different ways but we know that we have two things in common...we will all experience bereavement and we are going to pop our clogs someday. That's a scary thought - so we decided to talk about it a year ago, and we've been talking about it ever since. One thing is clear though - talking about it doesn't make it happen and it helps to bring us closer to life! Come and join in the conversation - we'd love to have you with us and we want your input...

Background to Poppin' our Clogs
by Denise Gilfoyle

Poppin' Our Clogs came after I attended an event in York for Dying Matters Awarness Week 2016. It opened my ears to a subject that I thought nobody wanted to discuss and I was amazed by the passion and the commitment shown by those attending. Other festivals came to my notice particularly Pushing Up Daisies in Todmorden, a community-led festival run by volunteers and artists and I thought 'Scarborough should have one' and the idea was born. Shortly after the first Scarborough Death Cafe was announced and after attending the meeting I knew we had to spread the word...We all feel scared about our end of life care and we have all been bereaved. We've all been there butwe don't need to be alone or isolated. Lets have an open dialogue about life, death and all that carry-on. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain...
